Ready.Set.Preschool!
Wow! I cannot believe the summer has come to an end and I am actually more excited than ever to go into my classroom and make the transformational change that is needed! Over the summer, teaching summer school and tutoring students from South Korea, I feel even more confident that I have what it takes to form a classroom culture where authentic learning experiences are shaping young minds every moment. I wasted so much time last year with my sob stories over not eating and not getting enough sleep but the reality is that my kids are the real victims. The achievement gap is seen as early as 3 year olds and I plan to close that gap before it even begins! That’s right! Preschool teachers have an advantage in being their child’s first teacher and investing kids at an early age in their learning. When my instructional coach first told me this, I thought there is no way I can take teaching Preschool serious. C’mon all they do is play all day, right? Wrong! When I got to DC Prep my perspective on young children began to change. There is never been a time like now that early education is so necessary for children from underprivileged backgrounds. After teaching last year, I can honestly say that shaping young minds is far greater than taking them to recess all day. I am essentially teaching these kids skills and mindsets and behaviors that they will carry them for the rest of their academic careers. Yes, they are 3 and 4 but they are being invested now into why school is important and what learning can do for them. This upcoming school year, I lay down my life so that I dedicate my life to give back like never before. I have been too given too much to neglect these talents and skills by becoming self indulged with my own selfishness. I am too passionate about this work to stand in my own way. The TIME is Now!!

Amen!
